Dr. Che-Fan (Jeffrey) Huang is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Texas A&M University. His research develops top-down proteomics and mass spectrometry approaches to define proteoforms as functional molecular units, with applications in biomarker discovery and in understanding human disease and cellular signaling.
Jeffrey received his Ph.D. from Northwestern University under the guidance of Prof. Milan Mrksich, where he combined surface engineering and MALDI mass spectrometry to study phosphatase biology. He then completed postdoctoral training in top-down proteomics at Northwestern’s Proteomics Center of Excellence with Prof. Neil Kelleher, with additional mentorship from Prof. Cara Gottardi in cell adhesion biology.
Originally from Taiwan, Jeffrey received his B.S. and M.S. from National Taiwan University under the mentorship of Prof. Jim-Min Fang and Prof. Hwan-Ching Tai, where his interest in chemical biology and proteomics began.
Outside of the lab, Jeffrey is an avid horn player and lifelong classical music enthusiast. He has enjoyed performing with the National Taiwan University Symphony Orchestra, the Northwestern Medical Orchestra, and the Lakeside Pride Brass Buttons Quintet. He is excited to continue making music and to explore the vibrant arts scene in the College Station–Bryan area and the greater Houston region.
